What this layer is

The Wasteland is the quietest layer in the demo and one of the deadliest. It contains no enemies at all, only the full trap catalogue of the Dried Desert plus the Sound Cannon, Coil and Spent Fuel. Radioactive barrels and contaminated ground push radiation high enough to cause infections and internal bleeding.

Temperature swings from −20°C to nearly 39°C, so insulation cuts both ways. Massive brick blocks and patches of verdure mark the transition toward the Overgrown Depths. Food Boxes can spawn here, but Medical and Container Crates do not.

Hazards

  • Radiation sickness and random infections
  • Sound Cannons, Coils and Spent Fuel

Field notes

  1. Bring Anti-rad or a route that avoids barrels entirely.
  2. Sound Cannons are far worse when submerged; never fight in water.
  3. Check your infection status after every radiation spike.
  4. Use the temperature swing to your advantage: travel during the cold hours in insulated gear.
Depth check: this layer ends at 1,200 m. The demo’s final layer is the Overgrown Depths at 1,500 m. The full game continues to 3,300 m.

Packing for the descent? Read the beginner guide, then check the injury system before you treat your first real wound.
