What this layer is

The Deeper Gravel Lands are a direct continuation of Layer 1, but the background holes disappear. This is the first layer where a real light source matters. Lumalgae pools provide dim cyan light and groundwater remains common, while sand and sandstone start to appear near the bottom.

The new threats are Cave Ticks, Bear Traps, Barbed Fences and Cave Tick Spawners. Flooding is the defining hazard: water slows movement, drains stamina and can push you into a trap. Learn to read the waterline before you commit to a tunnel.

Hazards

  • Total darkness between light sources

Field notes

  1. Carry two light sources; the Emergency Light alone will not last the layer.
  2. Probe flooded rooms with thrown items before wading in.
  3. Disable Bear Traps by throwing an item onto them, then break the tile underneath.
  4. Cave Ticks are small and fast; fight them with a wall at your back.
Depth check: this layer ends at 600 m. The demo’s final layer is the Overgrown Depths at 1,500 m. The full game continues to 3,300 m.

Packing for the descent? Read the beginner guide, then check the injury system before you treat your first real wound.
